The Umoja African Festival

The UMOJA FESTIVAL PROMOTES THE ADVANCEMENT OF AFRICAN COMMUNITIES BY INSPIRING CONNECTION. We celebrate our unity. The Umoja Festival is the bay area’s largest free outdoor celebration of the African diaspora. Our annual music and culture festival is a full day of live local and internationally renowned musicians and dancers, interactive and experiential artists, and marketplace of curated artisan and food booths representing a wide array of different regions of Africa. Umoja is the Swahili word for unity and represents the belief that through unity we make vital economic and social progress. This grassroots collaboration grew out of a desire to bring together the marginalized voices of prominent African communities to fully participate in Oakland and the greater bay area’s growth.
