Two of today’s most exciting bands share a double bill in this
latest installment of globalFEST, which this year showcases a new
golden age of Latin Music that is being created right here in the
United States. Forging inspired new paths, alternative Chicano band
Las Cafeteras recreates traditional Afro-Caribbean son jarocho music
in a wildly vibrant style, telling stories of a community that is
looking for love and fighting for justice in the concrete jungle of
East Los Angeles. The all-female Flor de Toloache - Mariachi
Femenino's self-titled debut album earned a Latin Grammy nomination in
2014. Based in New York City, the members of the band blend their
diverse cultural backgrounds (Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic,
Cuba, Australia, Columbia, Germany, Italy, and the United States) to
create a unique, fresh take on time-honored Mexican musical
traditions.
