Santa Maria Valley Open Space has teamed up with the Land Trust for
Santa Barbara County and the Santa Maria Natural History Museum to
lead a 5-mile hike through the beautiful Solomon Hills. The hike will
be led by biologists who are knowledgeable about local plants, birds
and wild life. Come and get all your NATURE QUESTIONS ANSWERED!
The hike will follow the 5-mile trail run course starting from
the NEWLOVE PICNIC GROUNDS in the Solomon Hills south of ORCUTT. The
trail climbs from the picnic grounds and meanders south with some
short steep climbs and rolling hills, takes in great views from high
country near Solomon Peak, and eventually completes a loop back to the
Picnic Grounds. Event details and schedule
Hikers should bring water, appropriate foot-ware for hiking, sun
protection, snacks and whatever you need for the outdoors.
Location: Meet at Solomon Hills' NEWLOVE PICNIC GROUNDS, 1555 Orcutt

Avenue. Park in the designated areas on the right as you
enter the picnic grounds. We will meetup at the covered kiosk just to
the right of the flagpole in the main picnic area. 9:00AM to
Noonish. Hike starts from the picnic grounds. Everyone must be with
and stay with the group from the start. This a unique opportunity to
hike on private property that is shared with cattle ranching and oil
field operations. Our permission to take you on this hike depends on
everyone's cooperation, abiding by the rules and being respectful of
the property, animals, wildlife and their facilities. Cost:
$20 that includes entry to TRAILPALOOZA ON SATURDAY, June 7. We will
have a list of registrants at the gate on June when you arrive at
TRAILPALOOZA AND JUST TELL THE VOLUNTEER THERE YOU ARE ON THE LIST.
If you are already registered for the trail run, mountain bike
racing or 0k run; we will count that registration for the hike also!
Let us know where you are registered when you arrive for the hike.
