Mystery car at Palm Springs auction
A 58-year-old Cadillac under restoration by master makeover artists in Las Vegas will arrive in Palm Springs in November for McCormick’s Collector Car Auction. “It’s something of a mystery because we don’t know exactly what it will look like,” said Jason McCormick.
Owner of the car is Danny “The Count” Koker, star of the TV show “Counting Cars.” He is rebuilding the 1961 Cadillac Coupe deVille in his famous garage and he and his crew will be selling it at the auction. He will capture the entire process from restoration to auction on film for his TV show. Known as “Count Koker,” his one- of-a-kind cars modifications are “spectacular,” McCormick said.
Held twice a year under balmy skies and waving palm trees, the Palm Springs auctions with nearly 600 vehicles are held on a six-acre site beside the Palm Springs Convention center near downtown. The dates are Nov. 22 to 24. The event is free and open to the public on Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and $25 for a weekend pass. Go to www.Classic-CarAuction.com to view cars planned for this auction, bidding details and more information.
1956 Jaguar XK140
Also to be auction is a 1956 Jaguar XK140 Roadster (Lot #447) once owned by Jeopardy star Alex Trebek. Unknown at the time and out of work, Trebek sold the car to the current owner for $6,857 in 1976, who restored it to award-winning perfection.
“All records and documentation” come with the car, said McCormick
1966 Shelby Cobra
A genuine CSA 4000 series Cobra, “This is the real deal,” said McCormick. It is powered by a 427 engine and a five-speed manual transmission and includes original paperwork signed by Carroll Shelby and Historical Vehicle California license plates.
