The benefit of shooting in a STUDIO IS NOT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT
WEATHER, time of day and outside distractions. In a STUDIO, the
photographer is in total control, creativity is the only
limitation. This workshop will cover the principals of STUDIO
LIGHTING, posing, classic LIGHTING PATTERNS, LIGHTING RATIOS, metering
and using professional STUDIO GEAR AS WE CONCENTRATE ON INDIVIDUAL
PORTRAITS AND HEADSHOTS USING A LIVE MODEL. The instructors will
provide attendees with triggering devices to use during the
workshop.Topics Covered:
* Working with self contained AC and battery powered Profoto D1 and
B1 monoblocks. Up to 3 light sources will be used.
* How power pack and heads systems work.
* How to work with umbrellas soft boxes and reflectors.
* Posing to make your subjects look their best.
* Communicating with your model / subject.
* Background selection to fit your client’s needs.
* Using a light meter for fast, accurate, consistent exposures.
* Setting up your own portrait studio.
Recommended skill level: beginning to intermediate. Attendees
should have a good working knowledge of their camera.
What to bring:
* DSLR or Mirrorless camera
* Charged battery
* Memory cards
* The best lenses (for a full sensor camera) would be a 70-200 mm or
a 24-70 mm zooms in that order, or fixed focal length 85mm or 100 mm
or 105 mm. For the best “look” a portrait lens is preferred, but
one as short as a 50 mm would work.
* If you have a PocketWizard triggering device, please bring it.
* Note taking materials
* You do not need to bring a computer, unless you like to take notes
that way. A small handout will be provided.
