IMPORTANT NOTE: 5199 Stony Point Road, SANTA ROSA, CA (please make
sure your gps does NOT show Petaluma or Cotati!!)This is on Stony
Point Road just south of the intersection of Rohnert Park Expressway.
There are parking areas on both sides of the creek, however, the one
most of us will be using is the southern most one. But...either
parking area works.
We generally begin our hike on the southern most side (the side
closest to Cotati) and then end up coming back on the northern most
side. That can change if there is rain as we do cross the creek at a
rather low spot.
This flat hike takes us through farmland and along a portion of the
creek that tends to stay rather green for the most part. After
crossing the creek we will take a side trail that leads us to Llano
road and the Santa Rosa Water Treatment plant. There is actually a
nice little lake and a lovely spot to sit and rest if one desires to
before we head back. On our way back we will not be crossing the creek
and will end up back on Stony Point Road but on the other side of the
creek. If we go all the way to the water treatment plant this walk
could end up being around 4 miles.
Please note that there are both fast and some slow walkers on these
walks as well as some in between ones. In other words there will
always be someone to keep you company no matter your preference.
ALSO NOTE that if there have been heavy rains this trail can get quite
muddy!
NOTE: As with all of our hikes and walks we do leave at the time
indicated – if, however everyone that signed up is there early we
will start early. We do not wait for late arrivals out of
consideration for the group already there.
