A CURATED TOUR OF FLORENCE BIXBY'S GARDENS AT RANCHO LOS
ALAMITOSThere’s no better time to enjoy the Rancho’s nationally
recognized gardens which were planned and executed in the early
decades of the 20th century under the careful guidance of owner
Florence Green Bixby using outstanding landscape architects and
plantsmen of the era, including the Olmsted Brothers, William
Hertrich, Florence Yoch, Paul J. Howard, and Allen Chickering.
Your guide will be the Rancho’s own historic gardens expert, Janet
Brown Becker. Ms. Becker has a Master’s degree in Landscape
Architecture with an emphasis in California garden design and history
from UC Berkeley. She studied under the Rancho’s preeminent
landscape architectural consultants, Russell Beatty and David
Streatfield. Ms. Becker oversees the historic interpretation,
curatorial documentation and horticultural integrity of the Rancho’s
gardens.
