Learn about the opportunity to serve federally funded meals to
children enrolled in after school programs or residing in emergency
shelters!

YOU!
* Do you run an after school program with regular, structured and
supervised activities?
* Does your school have more than 50% of low-income students?
* Does your program serve more than 20 kids at least twice a week?
* Are you interested in learning how to serve fully funded meals to
children and teens 18 and under?
AT THIS WORKSHOP YOU WILL:
* Learn about the basics of the At-Risk component of the Child and
Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)
* Understand differences between being a CACFP Sponsor and a CACFP
Site
* Understand the application process to become a site or a sponsor
* Learn best practices from organizations already serving supper at
their site

Q: I DO NOT RUN AN AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM, BUT I’D LIKE TO
LEARN MORE ABOUT AFTER SCHOOL MEALS, CAN I STILL REGISTER?
A: Although the target audience for this workshop are eligible sites,
we recognize that support organizations play a vital role in program
success. If you think that learning about after school meals will
positively impact the communities you serve, you are welcome to
attend.
Q: WHAT IS THE FORMAT OF THE WORKSHOP?
A: The workshop will be divided in two sessions.
FIRST SESSION: Overview of the At-Risk component of the
CACFP (9:30am to 11:15am)

Understand differences between sites and sponsors.

Summarize California eligibility guidelines
*
Discuss application instructions, meal requirements, administration
and reimbursements.
*
Hear from organizations already implementing the program.
SECOND SESSION (11:30am to 12:00pm):
* This session is for organizations interested in becoming CACFP
Sponsors. Take a deep dive into the application process, meal
production options, and financial considerations before you apply.
*THERE IS A BREAK BETWEEN THE TWO SESSIONS, YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO
STAY FOR THE SECOND PART.
Q: I SERVE LESS THAN 20 KIDS AND/OR MY PROGRAM RUNS ONCE A WEEK, IS MY
PROGRAM NOT ELIGIBLE?
A: An after school program that provides an enrichment activity (such
as tutoring or art) and that is also located in a school or within the
boundaries of a school with more than 50% students qualifying for free
and reduced meals, is eligible. However, logistical considerations are
essential for program success. You are welcome to attend the workshop
to learn more, connect with partners and assess your capacity to
partiicpate in the program.
Q: HOW DO I GET TO MISSION VALLEY LIBRARY?
A: This library is located right next to IKEA Furniture Store And in
Fenton Marketplace shopping center.

If coming from the North, take I-805 S to the CA-52 E via EXIT 23.
Merge onto I-15 S via EXIT 7. Take the Friars Road exit, EXIT 7,
towards Stadium. Turn right onto Friars Rd. Turn left onto Northside
Dr. Turn slight right onto Fenton Pkwy and arrive at San Diego Public
Library- Mission Valley, 2123 Fenton PKWY.

If coming from the South, take I-5 N to CA-15 N via Exit 13A toward
Riverside. Take I-15 N toward Riverside. Take the Friars Rd W exit,
EXIT 7B, toward Stadium. Turn left onto Northside Dr. Turn slight
right onto Fenton Pkwy and arrive at San Diego Public Library- Mission
Valley, 2123 Fenton PKWY.

We also encourage taking public transportation. Accessible via MTS
Trolley Green Line.
Q: IS PARKING AVAILABLE?
A: There are 85 public parking spots in front of the library.
Additional free street parking on Fenton PKWY.
Q: WILL REFRESHMENTS BE PROVIDED?
A: Water, coffee and a light snacks will be provided at the start of
the workshop. You can bring your own drink as long as it has a
lid.
