Join us to #FlipTheScript & deconstruct romantic comedies at La Casa's
February Living Room! A lively panel of filmmakers, comedians, and
commentators will break down how Hollywood glamorizes an unhealthy
vision of romance. We will watch clips from popular films & TV
shows—ranging from Love Actually to You—and inspect how they
normalize unsafe dating behaviors in ways large and small. Our
conversation will explore the connection between fictional media
narratives and real-life dating violence as our expert panel discusses
how we can flip the script on the romantic comedy. Don't miss this
timely conversation, hosted at Manny’s, examining how the public can
rethink the unhealthy picture of romance portrayed by the media. The
event will begin at 5:30pm with an interactive activity. The panel
will begin at 6:00PM. All ages are invited to attend, and entry is
free! The space is wheelchair accessible, not scent-free, and has
gender neutral restrooms. We don’t have ASL interpreters (but if
you’d like to volunteer, reach out!). La Casa de las Madres is the
leading provider of domestic-violence services in the Bay Area. The
Living Room is La Casa's quarterly event series where we gather our
community for vital conversations about creating a more equitable San
Francisco and inclusive culture.
