See a dizzying variety of military architecture and learn about
Spanish colonial settlers, 1906 earthquake and fire refugees, and the
evolving culture of the U.S. Army from 1846 to 1995.The highlights of
this mile-long walk include the newly renovated Presidio Officers Club
and Heritage Center, the Inn at the Presidio, the San Francisco Film
Institute, and the new Presidio Visitor Center. The walk ends outside
the Disney Museum on the main parade ground.
This easy two-hour stroll is also timed to end just before the Off
the Grid
[https://offthegrid.com/event/presidio-picnic/2017-5-28-11am] food
truck picnic begins, so you can bask in your post-HISTORY-tour glow
while enjoying food, drink, and games.
Our favorite retired park ranger and historian, John Martini
[http://www.johnamartini.com/], will lead this tour. A native San
Franciscan and lifelong researcher into the history of California and
the American West, he is now an independent consultant specializing in
historical research. He appears regularly on PBS, the History Channel,
A&E Network, and National Geographic Channel.
