OVERALL SCHEDULE
FRIDAY, 8-10pm = Fireside chat (free!) with our instructors at Ann &
Adam's place.
SATURDAY, 12pm - 5pm = Lindy Hop
SUNDAY, 12pm - 5pm = Lindy hop
Some topics the workshop will cover:
- Embrace your partner and dance in closed position: develop closed
position techniques so that both dancers in the couple feel like they
are contributing to the partnership and the music.
- Special moves using kicks: fancy moves that we created for fast
music wit a focus on connection and technique.
- Solo jazz routine: short routine of 8/8 (or more if needed),
followed by improvising on that routine.
- Special moves using triple steps: we focus a lot on how we connect,
and even when we do moves, we always talk about both of us having the
same importance in the dance. Explore these ideas with us!
LEVEL: This worshop will benefit dancers with solid foundations in
LINDY HOP ALL THE WAY TO MASTER LEVEL DANCERS. We expect most
attendees to have 2-8 years of dance experience. The classes will
blend revisiting fundamental teachniques and introducing brand new
ideas. If you aren't sure if the workshop is the right level for you,
please email us at info@shimmytown.com with a description of your
dance history.

BIOS
HECTOR AND SONIA WORK CONSTANTLY ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR PARTNERED
DANCING. LINDY HOP IS THE DANCE IN WHICH THEY CAN OPENLY EVOLVE ALL
TECHNIQUES THAT THEY HAVE LEARNED THROUGHOUT THEIR LIVES. Argentinian
tango, Latin rhythms, classical dance, and contemporary dance are
important disciplines that have their place in their learning of the
dance. Lindy Hop is the dance where one can achieve continuous
development. Swing is beautiful. Jazz culture inspires and serves as
the engine for Hector and Sonia in their constant learning process.
Partner dancing is a language that they treat carefully, developing
new ways of expression with respect and dedication. They critique
certain attitudes that may disrespect a certain role in partnered
dancing, and so they are open to new enriching expressions of their
understanding of partner dancing.
SONIA has been dancing different styles of dance since the age of 5,
but Lindy Hop is the one that has captured her heart. She has been
teaching regular classes in Barcelona, Spain since 2000, and over
Europe for the last 5 years. Being part of the Barswingona Dance
Company and with a classical and jazz background, she is well known in
her city as a fantastic social dancer and a dedicated traveling
international instructor. As a teacher, she is known to be
approachable, patient, and willing to dance with her students.
Beginning with the ballroom dances, HECTOR was at first more
interested on Latin rhythms, Afrocuban dances, and Argentinian
Tango. It was not until 2005 that he started dancing Lindy Hop, but he
was soon captured by the essence of the dance and he began teaching it
in 2009. Nowadays, Hector dances and teaches Cuban Salsa, Argentinian
Tango, and Lindy hop in different important schools of Barcelona. His
teaching is known to be focused on the roots of each dance and he
likes to develop one’s own body movements within the couple dance in
order to improve both leaders' and followers' connection.
