ROBERT MOSES' KIN RETURNS TO THE YERBA BUENA CENTER FOR THE ARTS FORUM
WITH THE WORLD PREMIERE OF "The EXCEPTIONALLY ELDERLY OVERWEIGHT BLACK
MAN PHOENIX," June 14-16. Choreographer ROBERT MOSES' WORK HAS BEEN
RENDERED BY THE FIERCE AND UNIQUE DANCERS THAT HAVE DEFINED ROBERT
MOSES' KIN FOR NEARLY 25 YEARS. With this new work MOSES REFLECTS ON
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE VIEWPOINTS OF AN "EXCEPTIONALLY ELDERLY
OVERWEIGHT BLACK MAN" are re-created by a multicultural company of
young, athletic dance artists. The evening is a telling and retelling
of one artist's life-time of perspectives through the dancing of his
company.
MOSES, explains: "I am reflecting on how I've made work here in SAN
FRANCISCO and how I've had to make work on different bodies. The title
of the piece wholly has to do with the changes that someone goes
through in their life and their reinvention at every odd moment. My
work comes from my life as a BLACK MAN AND IS BEING TOLD THROUGH
BODIES THAT AREN'T MINE, so I have to clarify where these things are
coming from. It's about different stages of a life and the
perspectives a person has as a result those life stages and changes."
In addition to the choreography, MOSES HAS COMPOSED THE ENTIRE SOUND
SCORE AND ALL OF THE TEXT FOR "The EXCEPTIONALLY ELDERLY OVERWEIGHT
BLACK MAN PHOENIX." Sectional seating provides the audiences with
unique viewing experiences, creating multiple ways of seeing and
experiencing the performance.
MOSES ADDS, "It's both simpler and probably the most complex thing
I've ever done."
The ROBERT MOSES' KIN COMPANY DANCERS ARE VINCENT CHAVEZ, Khala
Brannigan, Cora Cliburn, ArVejon Jones, Emily Hansel, Elena Martin,
Alivia "Liv" Schaffer and Victor Talledos, with guest performer Amy
Foley. MORE INFO:
