LEARNING OBJECTIVES This workshop will focus on R, a free and open
source statistical package used by an increasing number of geospatial
practitioners. R is supported by a large community of users and has a
large number of packages for spatial analysis. This workshop will
cover the basics of working with spatial data in R, including
importing and exporting spatial data, geoprocessing, spatial queries
and joins, raster operations, and selected spatial analyses.
By the end of the workshop, students will be able to import vector and
raster data into R, do basic data manipulations including projections
and format conversions, query spatial objects using attribute values
and spatial relationships, perform common geoprocessing tasks,
automate workflows with R code, work with online data and services,
prepare data for analyses, and perform basic spatial statistics.
Emphasis will be placed on learning how to complete tasks you've never
done before, and automate data processing workflows. Some prior
experience with GIS is expected. Students who have not used R before
are welcome to take the workshop, but are expected to complete the
