LARGE-SCALE INK DRAWING ON PAPER
Alice Gould
8 Sessions >> Saturdays, March 21-May 9
10:00am-1:00pm, Studio 13, $385Use big brushes, squirt bottles,
splashes, drips, calligraphy and layers of ink washes on large-format
paper in this eight-week free-play class. This is a non-objective,
abstraction-based class, and can include the use of personal reference
material such as natural objects, photographs, or any source material
that is helpful. Explore ink properties and develop an abstract
awareness and language of your own. Work gesturally and throw your
weight around. We will use black india ink, working from subtle washes
to pure black, and open it up to color if desired. Instructor will
demonstrate various approaches & tools; class time will be used to
create multiple large-scale works on paper.

ALICE GOULD received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and
an MFA from the Nova Scotia College or Art and Design, both in the
field of Painting. She moved to San Francisco after attending RISD and
returned again after grad school, participating in shows at Adobe
Books and other local venues as a member of the vital community of
artists in the Mission District. Adventure and wilderness exploration
have guided her from city to country to wilderness, and back again.
Nature informs her work: large to tiny oil canvases and spirited
gouache works-on-paper are homages to life forces, weather, plant
dynamism, and paint itself.
