The Legend of Zaouli is a preview of a unique musical will be
presented for the first time in San Francisco at the African American
Art and Culture Complex.
Zaouli was born as a result of a death of a teenager girl known to be
the best dancer in a village. This tragedy had shocked the entire
village, across the region, resulting in a bitter fight and
differences among the villagers, but which later ended in a peace
truce that no one thought would be possible.
The story of Zaouli has been passed down from generations to
generation. The musical will take viewers through a magical
experience, retracing the life of a young woman, who was wrongly
killed, but her spirit later becomes the embodiment of a dance mask
that will inspire many.
Zaouli is a forest music dance, originating in the region of Marahoue
of the Gouro tribe in Cote d'Ivoire, the Ivory Coast (West Africa),
Zaouli is known to be one of the fastest and best footwork dancer out
of all dance masks in Africa. Zaouli represents, female beauty, grace,
finesse and strength. This event is kids friendly and very
