Hey Everybody,We re moving the group to Muddy Water s on Valencia. The
format will remain the same, so I’ll leave all the boilerplate below
as is. See my postscript for more information about our location
change.
The Daytime Mission Shut Up and Write! is a great place to get some
writing done in the middle of the week. I hope you ll join us.
Here s the details:
• We will set up in the back of the cafe. Look for the Meetup sign.
• Please check in with me when you arrive. Because we are in a
public space with people who will not be there for the meetup, I won t
necessarily know you re there for Shut Up & Write! We generally have
the entire back of the cafe reserved for us.
• There will be two focused 1.5 hour sessions of writing. No one
will look at what you ve written when the meetup is over.
Here s how it works:
9:00 - 9:15 - Brief introductions
9:15 - 10:45 - I ll set the timer and we ll WRITE FOR AN HOUR AND A
HALF.
10:45 - 11 - quick break for coffee, stretching of legs,
congratulating each other on 90 minutes of good focus, etc.
11:00 - 12:30 - Heads down, keyboards clacking (or pen flying, if that
s your MO)
People can continue to work, chat, or take off as they like.
PLEASE NOTE: The conversations of other patrons at the front of the
cafe are not usually distracting, but Muddy Waters usually plays a
little bit of quiet jazz. If this isn t your thing, consider bringing
your own music device and headphones! There are plenty of electrical
outlets, so no worries about making sure your laptop battery is fully
charged. AND: Parking can be challenging, so use public transit if
possible or leave plenty of time to find a spot; there s more parking
south on Valencia if you don t mind walking a few blocks.
I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday.
Thanks,
John

P.S. Regarding location: We will always miss Borderlands Cafe. It was
our home for many years, and now it s gone. Please continue to support
Borderlands Bookstore and the amazing work they do. We tried Manny s
for the last several weeks, and it worked reasonably well for us. We
love the cafe, and their mission. Their backroom, however, is not
ideal for our format. It s just a bit too noisy and filled with
distraction. Pretty much everyone agrees that Muddy Waters is better
suited to facilitate our writing. We hope you don t mind the change.
