Artist as Curator: An Intro to Curatorial Practice
Sherwin Rio

6 sessions >> Thursdays, March 5- April 9
6:00-9:00pm, 16C, $295

This course will provide students with the foundational knowledge, historical study, site visits, and hands-on experience to frame curatorial practice through the lens of an artist-curator. Through the textual and in-person examination of exhibitions— their metaphorical approaches, conceptual thematics/contexts, messaging, and viewership— this course will help students demystify the role of curation and draw out the work that an exhibition is doing. Students can expect a current Bay Area artist-curator guest lecturer, an off-campus site visit, and collaborative in-class activity/discussion. This class will require short readings and a writing assignment.
