BIO

Jörg Abbing has played concerts and given master-classes all over Europe, in the USA, and Australia. His programs have included works by Bach, Franck, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Guilmant, Vierne, Widor, Vierne and Messiaen. He has given many radio and television performances, and has made many recordings as well.

Serving as Dean at the Conservatory of Music in Saarbrücken, Jörf is also a lecturer at the Bishop’s Institute for Church Music in Speyer. His published writing focuses on organ music and organ composers. His PhD dissertation was on Maurice Duruflé, and he wrote the first biography on the French organist Jean Guillou (2006).

Since 1995, he has been Cantor and organist at the Lutheran church of St. Arnual and co-founded the church's concert series there.

A native of Duisburg, Germany, Jörg's first studies in piano and composition (with Alexander Meyer von Bremen) as well as in organ ( with Günter Eumann) led him into further study.

He has studied Lutheran church music, organ performance, musicology, art history and German literature in Düsseldorf and Saarbrüken. Continued organ studies in Paris have included work with Gaston Litaize, André Isoir, and improvisation with Naji Hakim.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
There are no ID requirements for the concert series.
The concert space is very open and acoustically live, so it's important to keep audience noise to a minimum so everyone can enjoy the music.
Children who are able to be quiet for the duration of a :45 to :50 musical performance are welcome.  

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
The Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption is located at 1111 Gough between Geary and Ellis Streets. The 38 Geary stops nearby. There is also a good sized parking lot. 

What can I bring into the event?
The performance takes place inside our sanctuary space, so please don't bring in food to eat or drink.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
The Cathedral Music Department can answer your questions at (415) 567-2020 x 213 from Wednesday through Saturday, between 10 am and 2 pm.

What's the refund policy?
Donation tickets can be refunded up to a day before the concert. You can also transfer tickets.
Do I need to bring a printed copy of my ticket?
You don't need to bring a printout: we can see donation "tickets" on Eventbrite.
