Do you have a young adult (ages 18-30) in your life who needs extra
help finding their path to adulthood? You are not alone! We call the
process POSITIVE ADULTING! ADULTING, _yes not a real word_, is meant
to infer that there is a series of best practices and helpful actions
taken to find one’s path towards employment, housing, social
connection, and independence.
Many of our young adults with learning disabilities, mental health,
and/or high functioning Autism live at home with their families. They
aren’t Regional Center clients so it's up to their parents to guide
them as best they can. The desire for independence may be difficult to
meet in stressful, high priced, Silicon Valley. OR, these young adults
may become so comfortable at home that they aren't considering
leaving. So much for a parent's dream of empty nesting!
This is unchartered territory for most of us as parents. How can we
help our young adults gain the tools and motivation needed to
successfully launch their independent lives? Come and meet other
parents who are going through the same process!
This new parent support group starting from scratch in Spring 2019.
Together, we will identify common goals and perceived obstacles in
order to find appropriate information and resources. Let’s learn
together and from each other as we work to find ways to help our young
adults on their Paths to Positive Adulting!
THE GROUP MEETS ON THE 4TH TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH FROM 7-8:30 AT PHP IN
THE SOBRATO CENTER FOR NONPROFITS, SAN JOSE.
ZOOM CONFERENCING IS AN OPTION FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT ATTEND IN
PERSON. Contact Marlee if you want to join the meeting virtually.
