The streets of Downtown SAN RAFAEL will rumble to life once again as
the beloved tradition of cruising Fourth Street returns for the 36th
ANNUAL MAY MADNESS CAR SHOW & PARADE ON SATURDAY, May 9, 2026.
This iconic event, the longest-running car show and parade in Northern
California, draws thousands of spectators and more than 200 incredible
vehicles, from classic cars and hot rods to custom art cars, and
beautifully restored originals.
At noon on Saturday, May 9, Fourth Street transforms into a vibrant
showcase of automotive history. Attendees can enjoy live music from
the ’50s and ’60s, local food and beverages, and a festive Marin
community atmosphere celebrating one of its most cherished traditions.
At 5 p.m., the parade of classic cars rolls through downtown, bringing
the spirit of cruising back to life. The celebration kicks off the
evening before, with a Friday Night Cruise on May 8 at 6 p.m. down
Fourth Street. A perfect way to enjoy downtown San Rafael.
New this year: A retro-inspired mobile photo booth experience housed
inside a beautifully restored 1962 Ford Falcon named Captain. More
than just a photo opportunity, it’s part of the show and a true
“memory maker on wheels.”
Also this year, special screenings of American Graffiti will take
place at the Rafael Theater in conjunction with May Madness. The
film’s iconic cruising scenes were filmed in part in downtown San
Rafael.
Trophies will be awarded in multiple categories, including Best Paint,
Best of Show, Best Hot Rod, the Greg Borrelli Memorial Award,
Community’s Choice, and more.
May Madness was founded more than 30 years ago by Greg Borrelli to
honor the legendary cruise nights of the 1950s—an era immortalized
by George Lucas’s American Graffiti.
The event is presented, planned, and produced by May Madness Inc. and
the San Rafael Business Improvement District. Check
