Zen in the VALLEY
Mondays at 6:30 pm. in SHERMAN OAKS, CA.Zazen (meditation) practice,
Dharma talks, discussion, and dokusan (opportunity for one to one
exchange with the teacher).
Zen is the practice of finding peace, waking up to connection with all
beings, and sharing it freely. Since 1988, Deep Streams Zen Institute
has offered Zen practice with Joseph Bobrow Roshi. Meditation, zazen
(sitting zen), is our core practice.
Community
Sangha, (community) is the foundation and heart of our group. We
practice with others to find and express peace, and to liberate self
and others. If you are new to Zen, we welcome you and provide
instruction. If you are a seasoned meditator you too are welcome. Our
approach emphasizes the relevance of Zen to our ordinary daily lives.

Practices
Deep Streams Zen Institute offers a wide range of Buddhist meditation
practices. No particular beliefs are required and we are a lay rather
than a monastic group. Practices include concentration, mindfulness,
and the opportunity for authentic koan study, a practice of meditative
inquiry. Koans are the folk stories of Zen, arising out of dialogues
between teacher and student. They provide a meditative focus through
which we can experience directly the essential nature of our living
and dying within the moments of everyday living.

Hanh in Plum Village, where he co-translated Nhat Hanh s Guide to
Walking Meditation. Joseph is the author of Zen and Psychotherapy:
