We are excited to present Harrison House Artists-in-Residence, Fred Frith, Electric Guitar and Heike Liss, Live Visuals, improvising together in their performance work, Drawing Sound, on Saturday, September 29 at 8pm on the the Harrison House outdoor stage.
In a world where the visual is perceived as primary, how can music avoid being taken as a soundtrack to what's on the screen? What is the equivalent of silence in projected images and how does a visual "gesture" relate to a sonic one? These are some of the questions that will be animated throughout the performance of Drawing Sound.
Fred Frith, an icon in the music world, is best known as a pioneering electric guitarist and improviser, song-writer and composer for film, dance and theatre, starting in 1968 with the English avant-rock group, Henry Cow. As a multi-instrumentalist, he appears on over 400 albums having performed with musical luminaries such as John Luther Adams, Brian Eno, Terry Riley and John Zorn. His composing credits for film include the acclaimed documentaries, Rivers and Tides, The Tango Lesson and Last Day of Freedom. He has been commissioned to write music for small ensembles and large orchestras, internationally.
Heike Liss is an award winning artist in the fields of video, photography and site-specific installation. Her works have been exhibited internationally in museums, galleries and at film festivals. Heike has collaborated with choreographers, Sonsheree Gile and Francois Verret, musicians Ellen Fullman, Marcus Weiss, Caroline Penwarden, GAW and Theresa Wong, multi-media artists, Ellen Lake, Nomi Talisman and Michael Trigilio as well as poet, Lyn Hejinian.​
