INSTRUCTORS: AVGC TRAINING TEAM
This 2-day, 14-hours course teaches the students the knowledge, skills
and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for
the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed pistol for
self-defense outside the home. The course is divided into 2 levels,
basic and advanced. Level 1, is a nine hour course and offers
essential knowledge and skills that must be mastered in order to
carry, store and use a firearm safety and effectively for personal
protection outside the home. Upon completion of Level 1, students
will attend Level 2, the advanced session, which is an additional five
hours of classroom and range training that teaches the student
advanced shooting skills. Students will receive the Basics of
Personal Protection Outside the Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules
card, course examination, and upon successful completion, Level 1 and
Level 2 course certificate(s).
***PREREQUISITE for this course is completion of The NRA Inside the
Home PERSONAL PROTECTION COURSE. Students must have a PERSONAL
PROTECTION IN THE HOME CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION, which you can scan
and email to avgctraining@gmail.com
OR
Be able to successfully complete a Pre-Course evaluation prior to the
class with the instructor. It will take about 2-3 hours for range
pre-qualifiation and to...
1. Complete a written test for The NRA's Inside the Home Personal
Protection Course which they must pass with a score of 88% or
higher.
2. State & demonstrate the three fundamental NRA Rules for Safe Gun
Handling.
3. Demonstrate the proper loading, cocking, uncocking, and unloading
procedures with a revolver and semi-automatic pistol and dummy
cartridges, including the pistol the student will use during the
course.
4. Demonstrate the ability to shoot two, five shot groups nine-inch
or smaller in the middle of a target from a two handed standing
position at a distance of 21 feet, using the pistol the student will
use during the course.
A. Preliminary dry-firing exercise (checking for safe handling and
correct form
B. Live firing exercise (load and fire only one cartridge at a
time, five times)
C. Live firing exercise (Load five cartridges and fire at student's
own pace)
These are all pass / fail except for the written test which must be
passed with a score of at least 88% or higher
Pre-qualification must be completed well in advance of the
class. This is an advanced class and no exceptions will be made.
NOTE: The NRA Basics of PERSONAL PROTECTION OUTSIDE THE HOME
PARTICIPANTS MUST BE at least 21 years of age and possess defensive
pistol skills. PREGNANT AND WOMEN WHO ARE NURSING SHOULD CONSIDER
THE POSSIBLE HAZZARDS FROM THIS EVENT.
REQUIRED SUPPLIES AND MATERIALS: Pistol (no .22 calibers), owner's
manual, 300 rounds of ammunition (NO RE-LOADS), 3 to 4 magazines or
speedloaders and holders, strong side holster and belt, small
momentary flashlight that can be operated by one hand (preferably one
that has a high and low beam), concealment garment that you will be
able to acces your firearm, appropriate eye and ear protection.
Electronic ear muffs are strongly recommended. No scoop-neck tee
shirts or tank tops are allowed. Wearing a crew-neck tee shirt and a
ball cap is highly recommended. Closed toe shoes are
required. Class is held rain or shine, so please dress accordingly
and in layers.
SUGGESTED SUPPLIES AND MATERIALS: Pencil, blue or black pen, red
pen, notepad for note taking, highlighter, sack lunch/dinner, snacks
and non-alcoholic beverages of your choice. There is water, soda and
snacks available for purchase for 50 cents each. If using a
semi-automatic pistol, you may want to consider purchasing a maglula
or uplula for your particular caliber and magazine.
