Re-post of Event canceled In April.LOOSE ITINERARY.
Friday Sept 25th-Monday 28th
Camp at the beautiful and historic Temple Mountain near Goblin Valley
State Park, Green River, Utah.
Plan is to drive out after Work on Friday and set up camp at Temple
Mountain Campground. This will be our base for the swell. Plans to
ride Eagle Canyon, Black Dragon Wash, Temple Mountain and generally
explore more of the area. Lots of options here for all riders. I know
I will be hitting one easy trail that was an absolute blast! ( Sorry
about the gate prank, Kevin! But the look on your face!!!!!)
Tuesday Sept 29th-Sat. Oct 3rd
Break camp in the AM and head down to Moab.
Plan to camp at Sand Flats Recreation Area. From here we are only 5
mins to town for food, fuel and brewsky s. Quite and very well kept
campground. Great base to start from each morning! Ride Fins n Things
and Hells Revenge in the afternoon once camp is up. Wednesday ride the
White Rim Trail. Thursday explore south to Elephant hill, Steen Road.
Friday ride Lockhart Basin out and back. Chicken corners is also off
this way and is a great easy ride.
Sat. 3rd -Mon. 5th
Lets pack it up and move up to the White Wash Sand Dunes area and
explore the dunes and south to Mineral Bottom areas before heading
home Sunday night or Monday Morning.
CONSIDERATIONS:
All bikes and skill levels are welcome to attend but in the interest
of brevity i m only listing the more iconic and technical trails or
roughly what I want to hit while out. All areas we are going to have
plenty of options for alternate rides on less challenging trails and
nothing listed here is a hard and fast "You Must Do This!" Would
someone be willing to volunteer to lead rides so we can divide into
hard rides/small bike and big bike/new rider/easier rides?
We will be camping with night time lows in the 30 s-40 s with 20 s
posible (San Rafael). If you plan to Hotel it please make those
accommodations yourself and please plan to be at camp or rally point
for kickstands up each morning ON TIME!!! (Insert Tom Hanks Polar
Express joke here)
I will be bringing my XR650R for technical rides and my Africa Twin
for easy rides and the White Rim.
(A side note on the White Rim Trail. The White Rim is an absolute
bucket list ride and one of the most iconic "Utah" areas. It is not
overly difficult
but does have challenging parts (steep, rocky, but short
climbs/descents, sand in mineral bottom, ect. And accidently riding
off the road in some spots will afford plenty of time to contemplate
the divine before the sudden sto..!) PERMITS ARE REQUIRED! They have
to be done online the day before and while the site says they sell out
we have never had any problem getting them. We will plan to meet in
town and all get them together to insure everyone has one. If you read
online The White Rim is 70 Miles. This is true, HOWEVER! The Distance
FROM Moab TO Moab [ Shafer Trail, Mineral Canyon road ,313] IS 130
MILES!!! Please insure your bike has a minimum of 150 miles range or
that you bring extra fuel. I have run out of gas on a 200 mile range
bike after having to turn around to find folks. It takes 12 hours to
get a group thru if no one has any issues. We will be planning to
leave at the crack of dawn to insure we have plenty of time to get
back before dark. Don t let this discourage you, but please understand
what you are signing up for!)
If you have any questions please Call my cell phone. [masked] I m
looking forward to this awesome week or riding, drinking, and telling
tall tales of other times we rode and drank and told tall tales of
times we rode...
