Interested in trying rowing? This class will focus on SWEEP ROWING,
where everyone holds one oar (as opposed to sculling where everyone
holds two oars). This class will teach you the basics of the rowing
stroke beginning on the rowing machines. You'll LEARN THE BASICS ABOUT
THE EQUIPMENT AND TERMINOLOGY AND START ROWING ON THE WATER IN THE
BARGE--a bathtub like boat that is steady and flat bottomed that
enables the LEARNER TO ACQUIRE THE BASICS WHILE NOT HAVING TO WORRY
ABOUT BALANCE JUST YET. It also enables the coach to be inside the
barge to greatly facilitate LEARNING. Completion of this class is
required to move to the next level in SWEEP ROWING, Intermediate
Rowing. OR you can try your hand at sculling by taking a LEARN-to-row
sculling class. From college students to retirees, beginners to the
very experienced, men and women of all ages and physical abilities can
participate in Riverfront Recapture classes for beginning,
intermediate and experienced rowers. Classes are offered in both
large, team boats (SWEEP ROWING) and smaller, individual boats
(sculling) in spring, summer, and fall, and during the winter we train
indoors. Financial assistance may be available to adult rowers. To
inquire, contact Jonathan Near by email at jnear@riverfront.org.
