“WESTON ILLUSTRATED: PENNED, PAINTED & SCULPTED” NEW EXHIBITION
OPENS JULY 9TH AT THE WESTON HISTORY & CULTURE CENTER IN WESTON, CT
WESTON, CT – July 2023 – The Weston History & Culture Center
(WHCC) announces the opening of a new exhibition, “Weston
Illustrated: Penned, Painted & Sculpted” on Sunday, July 9, 2023
from 1pm – 4pm at 104 Weston Road in Weston, CT. “Weston
Illustrated - Penned, Painted and Sculpted” is the story of
influential artists between 1919-1965 and their connection to both the
locals and locale of Weston. Explore pieces on loan from the Friends
of the James Daugherty Foundation, the Jenny Moore Collection,
Westport Public Art Collection, Weston Public Library, Wilton
Historical Society and WHCC’s collection. Children can try their
hand at cartooning and drawing in the Young Artists Art Corner. The
exhibit runs till February 25, 2024 and is open every Sunday and
Thursday from 1pm – 4pm. Also open by appointment. Admission is free
to Weston History & Culture Center members, $5 – adult general
admission and $3 – child general admission. Tickets at the door.

After exploring the new exhibition, take a guided tour of the
award-winning Coley House. Learn how the Coley family would have
lived, worked, and played on the home front during World War II. In
the parlor, learn about leisure time on the home front during World
War II. Sit down at the dining room table for an interactive
experience as you discuss topics important to the Coley family and
Weston during this period. Explore a kitchen in transition as
technology and World War II impacted food supplies, appliances and
everyday household tasks. Learn about the lady of the home, Cleora
Coley, who served multiple roles in the family. Guided tour tickets
are included in the admission price. Stroll the grounds of the
historic Coley Homestead and wander through the Daniel E. Offutt III
Sculpture Garden, smell the herbs in the Betty Hill Garden and explore
more history of the property using our award-winning interpretive
signs.
The Weston History & Culture Center is participating in the 2023 CT
Summer at the Museum program. The program invites Connecticut children
ages 18 and under plus one accompanying Connecticut resident adult to
visit our exhibits free of charge during our open hours Sundays and
Thursdays from 1pm - 4pm from July 6 - August 31, 2023. Please ask
about the program when checking-in. Funding for the initiative is
provided by the CT General Assembly, with the support of Connecticut
Humanities and the Department of Economic and Community Development,
Office of the Arts, which also receives support from the federal ARPA.
The Weston History & Culture Center is located at 104 Weston Road in
Weston, CT. Parking and entrance accessed on High Acre Road. Parking
is available on site. Please check in and/or buy tickets in the
Visitor’s Center, red building adjacent to parking lot.
