3 Wednesdays, January 7 - 21, 4:00 - 6:00 pm The Basics of Making
Comics (Theory & Practice) Taught by Knack Whittle, Ages 8-12 $71
Member / $78 Non-member Do you like comics? Would you like to make
them? Would you like to learn about what goes into making them? This
class will teach you the basics of making comics, no matter what your
skill level. This includes what goes into writing them, drawing them,
and a little bit of the history of what works and why it does. Knack
Whittle graduated SVA in 2021, and was taught by many artists and
editors such as Klaus Janson, David Mazzucchelli, Alitha Martinez, and
Carl Potts (among many more), and is very enthusiastic about passing
on their teachings. Students should bring sketchbooks and drawing
materials they usually use, if they have them. The Newark Arts
Alliance will retain a $5 cancellation fee if a student withdraws from
a class. Knack Whittle (they/them) is a cartoonist living in Cecil
County, MD, and one of the illustrators for the best-selling series of
graphic novel adaptations of Francine Pascal's Sweet Valley Twins
series. Knack graduated from SVA in New York in 2021 with a BFA in
Cartooning, and works from home full time as a cartoonist and as a
professional GM for various tabletop games. In their free time, Knack
can be found playing/leading D&D, studying history, or exploring every
indie bookstore they can find along the east coast, among other
things.
