****Multi Date COHORT ADDITIONAL OFFERINGS****The Government Alliance
on Race and Equity [https://www.racialequityalliance.org/] (GARE), in
partnership with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments
(COG), is pleased to announce additional learning opportunities to
support local government jurisdictions in the Washington DC Metro
region in their journeys to systemically advance racial equity.
Building on the learnings and growing urgency sparked in part by the
inaugural DMV Racial Equity Learning Cohort, the following sessions
are available:
ADDITIONAL TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR SPRING 2020:
These additional sessions are open to all COG member jurisdiction
staff, regardless of current participation in the Racial Equity
Learning Cohort. These sessions are intended for any staff outside of
current cohort participants.
Please note that both sessions are stand-alone registrations – and
participants are welcome to enroll in one or both. However, if you
wish to enroll in Train the Trainer (Session B), note that the
Introduction to Government’s Role in Advancing Racial Equity
(Session A) is a prerequisite. COG will host these sessions (777 N
Capitol Street, NE, Washington, DC). There is limited seating capacity
for each session (50 – 80 persons).
INTRODUCTION TO GOVERNMENT’S ROLE IN ADVANCING RACIAL EQUITY (8

Gain an understanding of the role of government in relation to racial
equity
*
Examine the regional landscape through a data review with an equity
lens
*
Gain an understanding of the local historical context and its
relationship to the current condition
*
Develop a shared racial equity analysis, including definitions of
terminology (racial equity/inequity, implicit/explicit bias,
individual/institutional/structural racism)
*
Develop skills at analyzing policies and practices from a racial
equity perspective and communicating about race
TRAIN THE TRAINER COURSE (8 HOURS) – _COST $200/PERSON__ (Must do
1-day introduction training to participate)_

Learn racial equity facilitation and training skills that will support
transformational change within institutions.
*
This workshop includes an introductory 4-hour curriculum that you can
use in your own organization, as well as specific exercises, and
strategies for dealing with challenging situations.
*
Participants will develop skills to take difficult conversations about
race, and equity to a deeper level and develop strategies for working
through challenging situations.
