Philadelphia based 4-piece BLUSHED HAS BEEN MAKING WAVES IN THE DIY
SCENE SINCE THEIR EARLY BEGINNINGS AS A TRIO. With their current
lineup of Missy Pidgeon (guitar/vocals, she/her), Alyssa Milman
(bass/vocals, they/them), Matty Klauser (drums, they/them), and Dan
Leinweber (guitar, he/him), they’ve toured the East Coast, playing
DIY spaces, bars, venues, and festivals. No stranger to local shows,
BLUSHED HAS ALSO PLAYED MANY OF PHILLY’s DIY spaces and iconic
venues, such as Johnny Brenda’s, PhilaMOCA, World Cafe Live, and
Boot & Saddle, where they will be celebrating the release of their
first stand alone EP I Love You So Much It Hurts. Along with all of
the live shows BLUSHED HAS PLAYED, their split EP with psych rockers
Secret Nudist Friends has brought them love from the Deli Mag and
WXPN’s The Key, where they recorded an in-studio session with John
Vettese. With their ever evolving style, blending elements of surf,
garage rock, grunge, punk, and their love for all things kitsch,
BLUSHED IS SURE TO BRING A WACKY, energized set reminiscent of a high
school movie’s sleepover montage - if the stars of the movie were
the alternative weirdo extras.
“…racing surf licks, upbeat indiepop harmonies… biting edge that
reminds us that happiness and comfort is fleeting, and the human
emotional experience is by nature dynamic.” - John Vettese, WXPN The
Key
"A persistent back-end rumbles and pushes forward, as angst-anchored
vocals softly swell within the surf sound.” - The Deli Magazine

BOTTLED UP
Indian-American multi-instrumentalist Nikhil Rao started experimenting
with his pop/rock mutations in 2012 on his Tascam 8-track. Influenced
by artists like R. Stevie Moore, Prince, Talking Heads, and Ariel
Pink, he gravitated towards pushing songwriting and arrangements to
their limits dynamically and sonically. The arrangements continued to
evolve as a solo-artist in Oakland, CA and Los Angeles, while
attending college in Silicon Valley for Sound Design and Scoring for
Film & Video Games.
After moving to D.C., Nikhil formed the group with Colin Kelly (of
Young Rapids). As chief songwriters, and coming from different
backgrounds (Nikhil from the frenetic DIY scene of Oakland, and Colin
from the more experimental/avant-garde D.C.), the kaleidoscopic tape
meditations transformed into something more polished, clear, while
retaining the mercurial nature of Nikhil’s analog heritage. The band
was then joined by Michael Mastrangelo & Beth Cannon on lead guitars,
thickening and expanding sonic diversity, as well as Nikhil’s
younger brother Rohit Rao (of Violent Change) on drums who skillfully
glides between visceral punk and acid-jazz rhythms.
