Digital Photography Live In-the-Field Workshop @ National Mall Central
Shoot Each Composition in the Field class begins with a talk with one
of our experienced instructors, and then you and your fellow students
take a stroll through one of a variety of photogenic locales (in any
of the 20+ cities the DPA encapsulates). There is street
photography, magnificent interiors, farmers markets, zoos, landscapes,
and more, photos of which are included within. These photos are a mix
of student and instructor images in many different venues and cities
across the United States and Canada. You will have fun in the three
hour session, learn to shoot strategically, get more interesting
photos of the event, and walk away with a foundation to improve your
photographs in the future, whether you’re traveling, or at a
birthday party and everywhere in between. The central section of the
mall is home to the Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, Tidal
Basin, Roosevelt Memorial, and World War II Memorial and the Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. This section of the Mall is also
where the largest concentration of Cherry Trees is located in
Washington, DC. This is the largest grouping of monuments and
memorials on the mall so wear some comfortable walking shoes and lets
go photograph some cherry blossoms and monuments. Getting great images
of the Washington Monument can be a challenge because of its height
and shape. Learn ways to give your images balance when you are
presented with an element that is either very tall and thin or very
short and wide. You will often come across situations that have
extreme contrast from very dark to very light, all in the same scene.
Learn how to expose your images to get the tonal range you want in
your final image. The places we will visit are photographed everyday
by hundreds of people. Enjoy a walk through these great places and get
some photographic tips that will help you create images you will be
proud of. Please be sure to charge your battery before coming to class
and bring a spare battery if you have one. Comfortable walking shoes
will make the walk much more pleasant and be sure to dress for the
weather. Meet the group in front of the Washington Monument Lodge at
Madison Dr. & 15th St NW, Washington DC . The Smithsonian Metro
station (Blue and Orange Line) is about a 10 minute walk from the
lodge.
