PART OF A SALUTE TO BILLY STRAYHORN MAY 28-30THE BILL CHARLAP TRIO
WITH JON FADDIS
FEATURING SPECIAL GUEST, CÉCILE MCLORIN SALVANT
ABOUT THIS CONCERT
Bill Charlap and his Trio appear with two superb partners for a
charming, close-focus encounter with Strayhorn’s unforgettable
songs—and a few scintillating piano solos. Fearless and inventive,
multiple Grammy-Award winner Cécile McLorin Salvant has been called
“the finest jazz singer to emerge in the last decade” (New York
Times). Trumpeter Jon Faddis “possesses a virtually unparalleled
range and full command of his instrument, making the practically
impossible seem effortless” (Time Out New York). It’s a potent
artistic partnership, one appropriate to honor what the Library’s
jazz curator Larry Appelbaum calls “the creative work of a musical
architect of the highest order…one who added greatly to the
brilliance and beauty of 20th-century music.”
Presented through the generous support of the Revada Foundation of the
