Presented in Spanish with English supertitles Lope de Vega's El Perro
del Hortelano (The Dog in the Manger) is a sparkling comedy of desire,
jealousy, and power. Countess Diana of Belflor proudly guards her
independence and rejects all noble suitors?until she discovers that
her secretary, Teodoro, is in love with Marcela, one of her
ladies-in-waiting. Caught between pride and passion, Diana launches a
clever and dangerous game of manipulation, where words become weapons
and love a contest of control. Witty, seductive, and sharply observed,
this Spanish Golden Age classic explores the fine line between desire
and refusal, revealing how love, ambition, and social class
collide?onstage and off. The City of Aventura proudly partners with
FUNDarte and the Miami-Dade County Auditorium to bring this production
to the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center.
