EXPLORING MEMORIES THROUGH POETRY: GUIDED BY MR. BLANCO.
Attendees will learn the principles of "show don't tell," which is
fundamental to writing poetry. And, will then apply what they learn to
craft poems inspired by meaningful memories connected to a specific
place and time.
COFFEE, BAGELS, JUICE PROVIDED
RICHARD BLANCO, who has roots in MIAMI, has won many literary awards
including the Lambda Literary Award for Gay Memoir (2015). In 2012
he made history when he was chosen to serve as the 5TH INAUGURAL
POET IN U.S. HISTORY (for President Obama's 2nd Inauguration),
joining the ranks of such luminaries as Robert Frost and Maya Angelou
as THE YOUNGEST, FIRST LATINO, FIRST IMMIGRANT, AND FIRST GAY PERSON
TO SERVE IN SUCH A ROLE.
