Orchestra Miami presents Mozart’s The Magic Flute at Miami’s
Scottish Rite Masonic Temple in a production staged by Emmy award
winning director David Grabarkewitz and conducted by Orchestra
Miami’s Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi, with costumes designed by
Marina Pareja. Join us for an enchanted journey, where our hero Tamino
treads the path to enlightenment, ultimately guided by his beloved
Pamina. The forces of evil are at hand, in the guise of the Queen and
her servant Monostotos, countered by the benevolent Priest Sarastro.
The charming bird-catcher Papageno, three ladies, a host of animals,
an enchanted flute and a wild snake-monster help tell one of the
greatest tales in opera! The cast features Metropolitan Opera star
tenor Gregory Schmidt as Tamino, internationally renowned soprano
Yunah Lee as Pamina, American baritone Gabriel Preisser as the
bird-man Papageno, bass-baritone Neil Nelson as Sarastro and
introducing Miami native Melissa Ruiz as the Queen of the Night. The
opera will be sung in English, with dialogue in a new translation by
David Grabarkewitz. The performances will be held in the historic and
acoustically perfect auditorium of Miami’s Scottish Rite Temple,
located at 471 NW 3rd Street on Friday, May 11th at 8:00 PM and
Sunday, May 13th at 2:00 PM. In addition to the full-length opera (3
hours), Orchestra Miami will present a special Saturday matinee for
kids on May, 12th at 2:00 PM. This performance lasts 2 hours with
intermission and includes a meet-and-greet with the cast following the
show. This magical performance features an abridged version of
Mozart’s sublime opera, with a focus on the magical bits. Advanced
purchase tickets for the Friday May 11 & Sunday May 13th performances
are $20- $60, and seniors and military personnel receive 15% off. At
the door, tickets are $25-$65. Tickets & info at
