BIKE RIDE ALONG SARASOTA BEACHES IN THE NOKOMIS AND VENICE AREA.LEVEL: BEGINNER AND ABOVE SPEED: Approx. 11 MPH DISTANCE: 16 miles WHERE: South Sarasota to Nokomis (Casey Key Loop) WHEN: Tuesdays and Thursdays START: Bay Street Park ABOUT: Prior to the ride we will talk about bike safety, etiquette and signals. This will be a journey of about Sixteen (16) Miles and is for beginning riders and above. It should last just around 2 hours traveling at approximately 11 mph. We will make water stops along the way to stay hydrated. The meeting spot will be in the PARKING LOT of Bay Street Park. It is just less than a mile from the Osprey Junction Trailhead of the Legacy Trail. **IMPORTANT: Please be sure your bike is fully tuned-up PRIOR to each event (brakes, TIRES AIRED UP, etc.) - Thanks in advance! ROUTE INFORMATION: On this adventure we will be riding what I call the CASEY KEY Loop which will take us Down the Legacy Trail to beautiful Casey Key where we will pass beautiful views of both the Gulf and the Bay as we meander through one of Sarasota’s elite neighborhoods with it’s Little Castles and million dollar views. We will then return via Blackburn Point and Old Venice Rd. This route is done in both directions and looks totally different when reversed. All routes for future rides do a portion of the LEGACY TRAIL which is a dedicated 10 mile asphalt paved rail-trail which stretches from Sarasota to Venice, passing through Oscar Scherer State Park and ending at the Historic Venice Train Station. From there it it joins the 10 mile VENETIAN WATERWAY TRAIL which extends to Caspersen’s Beach which is knowN for it’s sharks teeth. ************************************************************** THINGS TO BRING/WEAR: -Water -A bike helmet (mandatory since we will be on traffic roads) -Comfortable clothes -A spare bike tube (mandatory, I will have CO2 cartridges if you have a flat and need help) -Gloves (optional) -Sunscreen -Comfortable clothes -Sunglasses (a bug in your eye is a terrible thing) -A bike mirror is helpful -A happy disposition and an adventurous spirit ************************************************************* We will be going to eat and/or have drinks at Mad Moe's after the ride for anyone interested. *******All riders ride at their own risk*********
