Topic: Safely Navigating the Middle Ground: Thoughts from an
Environmental ModeratePresenter: Charles C. Reith, PhD
Presentation Description:
What can we learn from Kunwar Ranjeet Singh, India's celebrated
moonwalking traffic cop? One lesson that it is possible to get people
who are heading in different directions to interact with each other in
a smoother, organized flow if you do it with humor, understanding,
sincerity, open-mindedness, and even flair. Even if you can’t dance
like Michael Jackson, you can leave an impression with your conviction
and creative tactics and language.
Charles Reith will share his experiences as an environmental scientist
coaching and working with profit-driven businesses, cautious
government agencies, and ideologically spirited nonprofits. In a
lively discussion, Dr. Reith will walk us through some of his most
compelling challenges and will articulate the moderate’s coaching
approach toward preserving progress and reconciling agendas.

About the Presenter:
Charles C. Reith is an environmental scientist with 30 years
experience in diverse projects, roles, and organizations. He has
technical expertise in land management, hazardous waste disposal,
pollution prevention, and environmentally responsible resource
development. He has worked with and managed governments, companies,
and public interest groups. Charles unfailingly advocates for the
environmental agenda but always keeps economic realities and other
potentially constraining circumstances in mind.
His present challenge is to engage Sarasota’s small business
community into adopting sustainable strategies to improve their
environmental performance, cut costs, and increase patronage by
customers who vote green with their pocketbooks.
