This PROGRAM TAKES PLACE AT MOTE'S ELIZABETH MOORE INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR CORAL REEF RESEARCH & RESTORATION (IC2R3) in SUMMERLAND KEY, Florida and at Looe Key Reef Dive Center on Ramrod Key. Join Mote Marine Laboratory as a citizen scientist and receive hands-on opportunities to make a positive difference in the health of our CORAL REEF SYSTEM- the full RESTORATION EXPERIENCE WHERE YOU CAN PARTAKE IN A CORAL’s journey from start (fragmentation) to finish (outplanting). Spend a day learning about CORAL REEF SCIENCE, helping fragment CORAL UTILIZING MOTE’s science-based research, and tour one of the country's largest land-based CORAL NURSERIES. After spending a morning with Mote Scientists, take nursery-grown CORALS AND OUTPLANT THEM ONTO THE REEF AT ONE OF OUR DESIGNATED OUTPLANTING SITES ON THE FLORIDA REEF TRACT, helping to rebuild our CORAL POPULATION. Activities will be dependent on water and weather conditions. For a dive-only PROGRAM (fewer land-based components), register for our “Basic Dive RESTORATION PROGRAM”. Price includes a CORAL RESTORATION WORKSHOP, training on CORAL FRAGMENTATION, a 2-tank dive and a citizen science card. Note: Scuba equipment rental is not included but can be arranged through the dive shop ahead of time. Tanks and dive weight will be provided. Ages: 15+ for divers; participants age 15-17 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
