In an effort to encourage citizens to plant native plants, Leon County
is partnering with Native Nurseries to offer a Buy One Get One free
sale of native plants for the third year in a row. Native plants are
an important part of our eco-system, and citizens can help support
native wildlife and pollinators by planting native plants in their
yards and gardens. Native plants can: • Create healthy places for
people: By choosing native plants for your landscaping, you are
supporting a healthy natural ecosystem and creating a healthier place
for yourself, your family, and your community. • Help the Climate:
Landscaping with native plants can help combat climate change. Native
trees, like our oaks, maples and pines, are very effective at storing
the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. • Provide Savings: Once
established, native plants generally require little maintenance. When
planted in the right place, they adapt to local environmental
conditions - saving time, money, and perhaps the most valuable natural
resource, water. • Save Wildlife: Without native plants, insects
can’t survive - taking away the base of the food chain for all of
our wildlife. These plants provide nectar for pollinators including
hummingbirds, bees, butterflies, and bats, while also producing nuts,
seeds, and fruits for all other forms of wildlife. The sale will be
available until supplies last. Up to $100 value per person/per
transaction. Offer only valid to citizens, not businesses.
