ANDY WARREN PRESENTS 'PERFORMANCE TUNING AND Practical SQL Server
Performance Tuning
This one day class is focused on showing you how to find and fix some
of the most common PERFORMANCE ISSUES you'll see at work. To fix
things you need more than "just do this" so we're going to spend some
time showing you how indexes, statistics, query plans, and locking all
contribute to how fast (or slow) things run. This class is designed
for someone new to PERFORMANCE TUNING, especially accidental DBA's
or developers wanting to up their game!
Some of the topics we'll cover:
* Indexing and index maintenance
* Statistics
* Reading query plans and the most common plan operations
* Using Profiler and Extended Events to find issues and confirm the
fixes
* Options for fixing less than optimal ("bad") plans
* Plan Caching
* Query Hints
* Locking, Blocking and Deadlocks
* Query Store
* Doing less work by caching and offloading
It's a lot to cover in one day to be sure, but because we'll dive
lightly into each area you'll be able to see how it all fits together
and that's what you need to start solving real problems.
This class will have no labs, but attendees can definitely bring a
laptop with SQL Server and SSMS installed (preferably SQL 2016 or
later) and experiment while we go through the various areas.
