Hacking 101: Creating a Virtual Lab
(Calling all women) CTRL+ENTER: Take a shortcut into the Cyber Space
Cisco/Cybersecurity Ventures 2019 Cybersecurity Almanac
[https://cybersecurityventures.com/cybersecurity-almanac-2019/]estimates
that women make up 20% of the world’s cybersecurity workforce.
That’s up significantly from 11% in 2014! Women are entering the
Cyber Space at record numbers, but the future is still at risk. In
order to fill the estimated 3.5 million vacant cybersecurity roles
projected to be needed next year, the cybersecurity industry needs
more women!
If you’re ready to take control of your career and enter the Cyber
Space, we’ve got you covered on how to get started. Join us for a
hands-on workshop designed to kickstart your cybersecurity
skill-building.
Setting up a virtual lab is key to protecting your system while
providing an environment where you can tinker, test, and try your hand
at new hacking skills!
This HACKING 101 ON SYSTEMS VIRTUALIZATION WILL INTRODUCE A TOOL FOR
CREATING A CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT ON YOUR LAPTOP. A VIRTUALBOX, a
VIRTUAL VACHINE (VM), is an operating system or application
environment that is installed and used for the purpose of imitating
dedicated hardware. You will have the same experience on the VM that
you would have on the bare metal system. This allows you to set up
your own VIRTUAL HACKING LAB, in which you can conduct pen testing and
improve your HACKING SKILLS WITHOUT FEAR OF DAMAGING YOUR SYSTEM.
AGENDA:
6:00-6:30 PM | Mix & Mingle
6:30-7:15 PM | Instructional Presentation
7:15-8:00 PM | Hands-On Lab
AFTER ATTENDING THIS WORKSHOP, YOU WILL UNDERSTAND:
+ Benefits of VIRTUALIZATION VS. bare metal systems
+ Types of VIRTUALIZATION
+ How to install and setup a virtual Ubuntu Desktop
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
+ Laptop and power cord
+ Ability to access 802.11n (2.4 GHz) wireless
+ Ability to install new software
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
+ Cybersecurity beginners, students, hobbyists, and the cyber-curious
+ Anyone interested in learning how to set up a VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT
+ No previous programming or cybersecurity experience required!
+This event is open to all, regardless of gender! #EachforEqual

As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to affect many parts of the
world, we know the potential impact is on everyone’s mind. The
health and safety of you, your families, and our global community is
our highest priority. With this in mind, we ask you to consider the
following questions before attending an event at our SecureSet campus:
Have you been infected (or are potentially infected) with COVID-19?
Have you been in contact within the past fourteen (14) days with a
person(s) who has been infected or is potentially infected with
COVID-19?
Do you now have, or have you in the past fourteen (14) days, flu-like
symptoms (such as respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of
breath or breathing difficulties)?
Have you recently (within the past fourteen (14) days) returned from
Mainland China, South Korea, Singapore, and the region of Lombardy,
Italy, or been in contact with someone who has recently returned from
these regions?
If you answer yes to any of the above, we kindly ask that you don’t
attend a campus event - however we encourage you to join one of our
upcoming webinars instead so you can still learn more about us.
PARKING:
Limited free onsite parking is available on the backside of our
building (spots are marked “DV Reserved” and “Staff Only”).
Additional parking is available along the street and in the nearby
Palm Parking Garage. The main entrance to SecureSet is located on the
patio at the East side of the old Don Vicente hotel. You will see an
open black gate at the back-right corner of the East patio. Take the
stairs to the second-floor patio and enter through the French doors.
