DIVERSITY & INCLUSION THURSDAY, JUNE 20, 2019 THE COMMUNITIES FOR WHICH HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS OPERATE ARE RAPIDLY DIVERSIFYING. NOT ONLY DO THEY PROVIDE CARE FOR A DIVERSE COMMUNITY OF PATIENTS AND FAMILIES, BUT THEIR WORKFORCE IS ALSO GROWING MORE DIVERSE. THIS DIVERSITY IS EXHIBITED IN A NUMBER OF WAYS, INCLUDING NATIONALITY, RACE, RELIGION, SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS, LANGUAGE, AGE, SEXUAL ORIENTATION AND PHYSICAL ABILITY. THE BUSINESS IMPLICATIONS AND IMPERATIVES HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS FACE CONCERNING DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION ARE IMMENSE. DIVERSE COMMUNITIES WILL DEMAND DIFFERENT CARE NEEDS, IMPROVED QUALITY, NEW OR MODIFIED OPERATIONAL PROCESSES AND SERVICES, STRATEGIC PLANNING FOR A DIVERSE PATIENT DEMOGRAPHIC AND CONTINUUM OF CARE. IT IS INCUMBENT ON HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS AND THEIR LEADERS TO BOTH UNDERSTAND AND EMBRACE THE NEEDS OF DIVERSE POPULATIONS. THEIR ABILITY TO RESPOND TO THE NEEDS AND PREFERENCES OF A BROADER CUSTOMER BASE WILL BE CRITICAL TO THEIR FINANCIAL AND OPERATIONAL SURVIVAL. AND SHE JOINED WELLCARE’S DIVERSITY & INCLUSION TEAM IN SEPTEMBER 2018.  SHE BEGAN HER EMPLOYMENT WITH WELLCARE  IN JUNE 2008 AS CORPORATE COUNSEL, LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT AND WAS LATER PROMOTED TO SR. CORPORATE COUNSEL, LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT. DURING HER 10 PLUS YEARS IN THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT SHE SERVED AS THE LEAD ATTORNEY PROVIDING ADVICE AND COUNSEL ON THE COMPANY'S EMPLOYMENT RELATED LEGAL MATTERS. IN THIS CAPACITY, DESIRÈE SUCCESSFULLY REPRESENTED THE COMPANY IN SEVERAL LEGAL MATTERS AND BOTH PARTNERED WITH AND GUIDED THE COMPANY AND HUMAN RESOURCES THROUGH VARIOUS CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES.  IN HER ROLE AS SR. DIRECTOR, CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION SHE SUPPORTS WELLCARE’S COMMITMENT TO PROMOTE DIVERSITY & INCLUSION AND TO BUILD AN INCLUSIVE, CULTURALLY COMPETENT ORGANIZATION. BORN AND RAISED IN BUFFALO NY, HE AND HIS FAMILY RELOCATED TO FLORIDA IN 2005 ACCEPTING A JOB AS A PHARMACEUTICAL SALES EXECUTIVE. IN HIS ILLUSTRIOUS PHARMA CAREER, ERIC EARNED NUMEROUS SALES AWARDS, PRESIDENT CIRCLE AWARDS AND MENTORED VARIOUS AWARD-WINNING TEAMS. IN 2011 HE HAD AN IDEA, AN IDEA THAT ADDRESSED AN UNMET NEED IN A RAPIDLY CHANGING DIVERSE HEALTHCARE LANDSCAPE. HE REALIZED THE NEED TO DELIVER EFFECTIVE HEALTHCARE STAFFING & RECRUITING SOLUTIONS IN A PERSONALIZED, CONSULTATIVE, SOLUTIONS DRIVEN AND COLLABORATIVE PROCESS. THROUGHOUT HIS HEALTHCARE CAREER, ERIC GAINED A VERY KEEN INSIGHT IN UNDERSTANDING THAT DIVERSITY IS NOT ALWAYS INCLUSIVE, AND THAT INCLUSION IS IMPERATIVE TO THE SUCCESS OF A HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS BUSINESS MODEL.
