FLORIDA LT. GOV. JEANETTE NUNEZ TO RECEIVE LCA'S PRESTIGIOUS GOLDEN
AGE AWARD ON SEPTEMBER 21STThe Latino Center on Aging (LCA) will
celebrate its Thirty-Second Golden Age Awards presentation on
September 21st at Pullman Miami Airport Hotel.
The 2019 GOLDEN AGE AWARD RECIPIENTS ARE: HON. JEANETTE NÚÑEZ,
Lieutenant Governor of Florida; HON. WILLY GORT, Commissioner, City of
MIAMI; DR. ENEIDA ROLDAN, Florida International University; MARJORIE
ALONI from MIAMI Jewish System; MICHAEL PEARSON of the Alzheimer’s
Association – SE Chapter; REV. GUILLERMO ESCALONA from MIAMI Cancer
Institute, Baptist Health SF; AARP-FLORIDA; and UNITED WAY OF MIAMI
DADE. The HON. JOSEFINA CARBONELL from Independent Living Systems
(ILS) and MARÍA HIDALGO from VITAS Healthcare are the event's
Co-Chairs.
The Banquet promises to be an eventful black tie affair with extensive
media coverage.
The Golden Age Awards were established in 1993 in New York and are
given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the
Latino/Hispanic communities throughout the world. Awards are given for
effective leadership, lifetime contributions, public policy
initiatives, corporate contributions and community involvement.
This year’s event is sponsored by Chen Senior Medical Center,
Advocate Health, Independent Living Systems, Florida International
University, and Florida National University - (List in formation). The
Latino Center on Aging was founded in 1991 to enhance the living
conditions of Hispanic elderly through education and advocacy. In
South Florida the LCA has developed an intense activity during the
past seven years by organizing a South Florida Advisory Board, a South
Florida Hispanic Coalition for Aging and a weekly radio show on La
Poderosa 670 AM. In addition, the LCA has organized and implemented
six conferences on Latinos and Alzheimer’s in Spanish, two of them
in Miami Lakes and Pembroke Pines.
