REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT OPENS AT NOON ON JANUARY 25TH.Mead
Botanical Garden, Inc., and The City of Winter Park are seeking
volunteers interested in habitat restoration to assist with removal of
non-native, invasive plants within several key areas with Mead Garden.
These plants destroy habitat by crowding out native plants that fauna
rely on for food, cover, and nesting sites.
Volunteers will be cutting invasive camphor tree saplings, cutting and
pulling invasive vines, removing other non-native vegetation, and
picking up litter throughout the property. A limited number of cutting
tools will be provided for the invasive plant control. Volunteers
should bring their own cutting tools, like loppers or hand pruners,
and gardening gloves, if available. Closed-toed shoes and long pants
are recommended. Bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated.
WATER COOLERS WILL BE PROVIDED FOR REFILLS AND MEAD WILL PROVIDE A
PIZZA LUNCH FOR VOLUNTEERS.
Volunteers will be required to complete a waiver
[http://www.meadgarden.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Mead-Garden-volunteer-waiver.pdf].
Please complete the waiver and bring it with you, if possible. We will
have extras on the day of the event.
This is a great opportunity to be outside and get some exercise while
helping your community and local wildlife.
Please complete the registration using an email address that you will
have access to on the morning of the event. If the event is canceled
due to weather or any other reason we will send out an email to
everyone who registered.
