INSTRUCTOR: Julia Hill  SUMMARY: This four hour course covers the fundamentals of preparing and joining stock metal with MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding.       DESCRIPTION: Students will get hands on experience using an angle grinder for steel prep, and a MIG welder to create vairous joints. In addition students will learn proper safety and methods for tool setup, use, and breakdown.    CONCEPTS AND TOOLS COVERED IN THIS COURSE: Stock Steel Prep Adjustable Metal Clamps and Magnets Angle Grinding Pressurized Air Cylinder Safety and Use MIG Setup, Safety and Use Auto Darkening Face Masks and Welding Safety Lap, Butt, and Tee Joints Finishing   ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: _Julia Hill was born in New Orleans, LA in 1983. She studied sculpture and printmaking at Tulane University and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2005. Julia’s work incorporates many different genres, including performance, installation, puppetry, metal fabrication, carpentry, ceramics, drawing, and painting. Her large-scale puppets have been performed at The High Museum, The World of Coca-Cola, The Atlanta Zoo, The Hambidge Center, The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, and numerous regional parades and festivals. In addition to her studio pursuits, Julia Hill works as an art and technical director, designing and constructing physical components for other artists and productions. She enjoys collaboration, has a passion for facilitating artistic visions, and enjoys repurposing materials and exploring creativity with humans of all ages. Julia Hill lives in Atlanta, GA._   FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Q: What is the dress code? A: Closed toed shoes, as well as long cotton pants and shirts are a must. Please wear leather or canvas shoes, not synthetic sneakers. For your own safety, no syntehtic fabrics please. Gloves, jackets, earplugs and eye protection will be provided. Q: When do ticket sales end? A: Ticket sales end two days before the event begins. Q: How many people can sign up? A: Each class has a maximum of 6 people.   Q: Is there an age requirement? A: Students must be above the age of 11, Students under 18 will either need to be accompanied by a parent or gaurdian or will require additional permission paperwork. Q: Where can I contact the organizer with any questions? A: If you have any questions or concerns, email US at education@masscollective.org Q: Is my registration/ticket transferrable? A: Yes, please notify us before ticket sales end about any transfer of purchase. Q: What is the refund policy? A: We will refund any ticket requested for any reason up to a week before the course runs, after that point we can only give credit to a future course. No call, No show abscences cannot be refunded or transferred. If the class cannot run as scheduled, for whatever reason, purchaser will have the option of a full refund or credit towards the makeup course.
