Mrs. Jimenez-Pride is a License Clinical Social Worker and Registered
Play Therapist. Mrs. Jimenez-Pride has a sandtray certification and
intensive training in Internal Family Systems. Mrs. Jimenez-Pride is
the current Vice-President of the South Carolina Association for Play
Therapy
DAY ONE: HANDS IN THE SAND: INTRODUCTION TO SANDTRAY PLAY THERAPY
Session Description:
This introduction to sandtray training is for therapists who are new
at using sandtray therapy within the play therapy setting. This
training will provide a basic understanding of materials needed to
begin sandtray in your play therapy practice, conduct and process a
sandtray as part of a play therapy session. The training will cover
how to work with both children and adults in the sandtray. Both
directive and non-directive sand trays will be demonstrated, and
participants will have an opportunity to experience creating
individual and group sandtrays.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will:
* Summarize the origin and theory of using sandtray in play therapy
and the connection to the therapeutic powers of play.
* Identify the difference between sandtray and sandplay play therapy.
* Discuss the materials needed for sandtray play therapy, such as
miniatures, sand and sandtrays.
* Explain the connection with sandtray play therapy and neuroscience.
* Demonstrate skills needed to process sandtrays with adults and
children.
* Describe sandtray play therapy interventions to incorporate into
play therapy with families and groups.
DAY TWO: CREATING THE PUZZLE OF SELF IN THE SAND: INTERNAL FAMILY
SYSTEMS WITH CHILDREN AND ADULTS IN THE SANDTRAY.
Session Description:
This experiential workshop is focused on gaining an understanding of
the Internal Family System model with children and adults in the
sandtray. Sandtray play therapy offers a unique experience bringing
their internal world to a visual state. This workshop will introduce
how various sandtray play therapy methods can be utilized in the
Internal Family System model to help participates further their work
with children and adults to identify and work with their parts.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will:
* List the core concepts of the Internal Family System model and
Therapeutic Powers of Play Therapy.
* Discuss the concepts of sandtray therapy and the difference between
sandtray and sandplay.
* Discuss how firefighters and protectors cause conflict with
children and adults in relation to Internal Family Systems work.
* Discuss the cultural challenges with children and families in
relation to Internal Family Systems work within the play therapy
setting.
* Apply the Internal Family System model to demonstrate sandtray play
therapy in the therapeutic setting.
* Create a list of directives focused on working with parts within
the sandtray play therapy setting.
