Canio’s troupe of commedia dell’arte have come into town to entertain the village. But Nedda’s restless spirit and her dangerous liaisons lead to Tonio’s wrath and the troupe’s ill fate. Leoncavallo’s great masterwork is an earthly look at humanity, jealousy and revenge. Coupled with the comical new composition of “The Birthday Clown,” it’s a perfect evening of theater’s Comedy and Tragedy.
