As cities seek increased density as a way to address urban population
growth, many building designers and developers are looking to mid-rise
wood construction as a cost-effective, code-compliant and sustainable
solution. This workshop is intended for structural engineers and
architects who are looking to further their knowledge of design
considerations for Type III and V wood-frame buildings. Topics will
include code requirements for heights and areas, as well as options
for increasing allowable size—such as open frontage, sprinkler
systems, podiums, and mezzanines. Discussion will also include
detailing wall and floor intersections for fire resistance, and
structural engineering design considerations for configurations that
include multiple stories of wood-frame construction over concrete
podiums.
