Jean Flesher is a prominent member of the Basque Community hailing
from Salt Lake City, Utah. His Basque heritage is from Iparralde, or
French Basque Country. Jean became involved in the Basque culture from
a young age, learning dance and music which progressed into putting
together a band and playing accordion for public dances and groups.
This allowed him to travel and play music for many events in the
Western US, helping out wherever possible to preserve and promote the
Basque Culture in the United States.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
“As far as cooking, I am inspired by eating. I like to eat good,
healthy, tasty food, but when I was younger I couldn’t afford to go
out often, so I learned how to make the dishes I really enjoyed. My
mother was a cook in a French chateau and a Basque hotel, so I was
always around great food. Cooking and maintaining the Basque culture
go hand in hand in the most delicious way!"
