Description Get outside with us to experience, share and celebrate the
joy and impact of trails! Hosted annually in April, Celebrate Trails
Day is an initiative of the Rails to Trails Conservancy to encourage
people across the country to enjoy our nation’s – and for us, Will
County’s – exceptional trails and trail systems. This year we’re
showcasing the new connection from Lake Chaminwood Preserve to the I&M
Canal State Trail and riding along the historic canal to the
campground at McKinley Woods — Frederick’s Grove near the
county’s western edge. Experienced riders only please. A bicycle and
helmet are required for each participant. The ride is 14 miles
roundtrip.
Volunteer support makes programs like these possible. If you are
interested in volunteering for biking programs, please email
VolunteerServices@fpdwc.org for more information. Lake Chaminwood is
an accessible preserve. The McKinley Woods campground has uneven
surfaces and natural terrain. Trails are paved or crushed limestone.
Ages 16 or older. Participants younger than 18 must be accompanied by
a registered adult.
