Shared Voices is honored to welcome our STUTTERING COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND SUPPORTERS TO THIS SPECIAL PUBLIC AWARENESS EVENT. We will be SCREENING THE AWARD-winning documentary, My BEAUTIFUL STUTTER, which follows the story of a group of young people who STUTTER AS THEY FIND THEIR VOICE AND COMMUNITY.This event includes a viewing of the film (90 minutes) with light refreshments and community connection time. Proceeds from this event will be used to fund Shared Voices community programs and transportation for young people who stutter in the Chicagoland area. _Note: while uplifting and inspiring, this film covers intense topics, including suicide. This powerful narrative is intended for all ages, but we recommend exercising personal judgment according to the needs of individual viewers._ ABOUT THE FILM The film follows five kids who stutter, ages 9 to 18, from all over the United States. They enter experimental, interactive and art-therapy based programming at SAY, The Stuttering Association for the Young, in NYC. After a lifetime of bullying and stigmatization, some have found themselves close to suicide and enter withdrawn and fearful. Over the course of a year of SAY events, workshops and camp, we witness firsthand the incredible transformation that happens when these young people of wildly different backgrounds experience for the first time the revolutionary idea that it's okay to stutter.
